A killer medical blackmail conspiracy The "unfairity" of charity, part 2 In the last Daily Dose, I recapped for you the desperate saga of 6 medical professionals (5 Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian doctor) who are quite possibly living their last hours on Earth in the Libyan prison where they've unjustly spent the last 8 years… Accused of the mass-murder (in effect) of 400 children infected with the AIDS virus in the hospital in which they worked in 1998, the 6 solemnly await a final appeal in corrupt Libyan courts - an appeal forced only by intense international pressure. The allegation is that they intentionally infected these kids, yet the evidence gathered since by a panel of international experts proves that poor sanitation and sterilization procedures at the clinic are to blame for the outbreak. However, their Libyan accusers have another explanation - it's like something out of a bad spy novel. According to them: - One Bulgarian nurse masterminded the scheme - storing a special, genetically altered strain of HIV in her home
- This nurse was acting as an agent of Israeli Intelligence, the alleged source of funding and organization for the project
- The HIV strain itself was provided to this nurse by a pair of mysterious, English-speaking field operatives named only "Adel" and "John."
- The nurse recruited the Palestinian doctor to participate in the plan, promising him $500,000US in a Swiss bank account, plus a Bulgarian wife!
How the other 4 nurses were recruited into this murderous plan (or why they'd even be necessary) the New England Journal of Medicine article does not say. What it DOES say, however, is that the virus was not genetically altered at all, but rather a natural and anticipated mutation of one of the most common forms of HIV in central Africa at the time of this alleged Israeli bio-terror attack. The Swiss bank account with the half-million dollars in it remains at large, apparently. Also unexplained by the Libyan accusers is how a Palestinian doctor managed to be recruited by Israeli Intelligence… Seems pretty unlikely, no? Of course, this whole farce isn't about justice for an attempted bio-terror attack (against harmless children, not soldiers, mind you)… It's about using a medical tragedy that's Libya's own fault to try to further indict Israel among the militant Islamic world - AND to attempt to extract an outrageous sum of blood money from dirt-poor Bulgaria. According to the Journal Piece, the Libyan government proposed to Bulgarian diplomats that under Islamic law, a payment of $10 million for each of the 400 infected children might secure the freedom of the imprisoned nurses! This, despite the fact that all parties concerned know that parting with $4 billion would bankrupt the Bulgarian government… Here's my point in talking about all this in this 2-part essay series: Africa is big news nowadays. American celebrities (Madonna, Brad and Angelina) are using the Dark Continent as a shopping mall for adoption, and the corrupt U.N. is becoming more Africa-centric with every passing day… That means a lot more young, idealistic AMERICAN medical personnel might yearn to put in a few years over in Africa - as both a selfless humanitarian gesture and as resume-fodder. But I'm warning you: If your child or grandchild is one of these, do everything you can to dissuade them. For the most part, they'd be entering a zone where love, righteousness, and the betterment of the many are meaningless - and where corruption and greed rule only to line the pockets of the few… |
