The Prem-pire Strikes Back Poisoning of the (ink) well In the last Daily Dose, I showed you the sobering truth of just how little your life is worth to one of Big Pharma's biggest players - if their willingness to pressure the Food and Drug Administration into quashing safe, natural alternatives just to protect the miniscule profits of a killer HRT (hormone replacement therapy) drug is any indication
I didn't go into great detail about what "killer" meant in the last Daily Dose - but here it is, from a 2002 article in the Journal of the American Medical Association: According to data extrapolated from the mammoth Women's Health Initiative Study, Wyeth's Premarin and Prempro HRT Drugs caused women taking them to experience: - A 41% increase in strokes
- A 29% increase in heart attacks
- A 22% increase in cardiovascular disease
- A 26% increase in breast cancer
- A 100% increase in their risk of blood clots
In other words, some pretty serious risks. In part one, I also showed you how the FDA might actually cave in and ban (or declare illegal) safe, natural HRT using bio-identical hormones formulated by compounding pharmacies - or rather, how they may already have done it. With the mainstream media as sympathetic to Big Pharma (and Big Government) as they are, we'd likely never have found out about such a move through their channels. I'll have to research the matter to find out for sure. But I digress - back to the story at hand: That a recent study published in an issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine piles new evidence onto the already-thick stack proving that synthetic HRT is deadly. This latest research points the finger at a drug called Estratest, by Solway Pharmaceuticals. According to data collected from the 70,000-strong Nurses' Health Study, women who took a combination of synthetic estrogen and testosterone - most commonly Estratest and Estratest H.S. - endured a 150% (2.5 times) greater risk of breast cancer than those who didn't take any hormones at all
Final nail in the coffin of synthetic HRT, right? Maybe, but the mainstream media is doing its best to take natural hormone replacement down with it. There's a newer, even more insidious note to the mainstream's quest to quash natural hormone replacement. This one's fronted by the media - and disguised as hard news about the dangers of synthetic HRT! Here's what I'm talking about: In the very same Associated Press article that summarizes the Estratest study from the Archives of Internal Medicine, the "impartial" writer also found a way to lump natural HRT in with the killer synthetic kind! One source cited in the piece (a doctor) cautioned against not only Solvay's Estratest, but also against using "similar products from compounding pharmacies." Now, if that's not a kick in the teeth! I know of no evidence that properly administered bio-identical, non-synthetic hormone replacement has ever harmed a soul - and I've researched it before. So has the media and Big Pharma, no doubt. If there were anything substantive backing this ridiculous claim (a quote from some doctor with an agenda doesn't count), it would have been FRONT PAGE NEWS for a month, I'm telling you. Beyond this, one of my most respected friends and alt-medicine colleagues, Dr. Jonathan V. Wright, is a pioneer in the field of bio-identical hormone replacement. So it's not like I'm out of my element here
But the mainstream press sure is - now that they're trying to paint true, natural hormone replacement as being hazardous like the synthetic HRT that's been raising women's cancer and heart risks for decades. I don't know why I'm surprised. If the mainstream media and medical establishment weren't so full of crap and lies, I'd have no readers and no job
It's still an outrage to know that menopausal folks who COULD seek help safely and naturally from an alternative medicine doc and compounding pharmacy now might not because of their dirty pool. They love to poison the well if they can't own it, you know? |
