Boom in Bust Leave it to vanity to spur the advancement of medicine
And for once, I'm all for it. Again according to the UK Mail, there's big news in the generation-of-human-tissue-via-stem-cells realm. Multiple teams of Japanese researchers have apparently found great success in helping women who are so inclined to grow their own breast implants! Using cells extracted from their own fat and combined on a molecular level with their body's stem cells, these scientists have been able to successfully increase the bust size of 38 willing women since 2004 - with no major complications or side effects. They claim the procedure will be perfected and widely available from plastic surgeons within 5 years. The new approach seems to ameliorate the flaws with existing natural, fat-based breast implants (yes, they exist, but not in wide use) - the fact that they aren't able to support the flow of blood, which means they shrink over time. British scientists reviewing these experimental implants are encouraged by the Japanese teams' pioneering results. The only "downside" of this new method is the fact that such outsize enhancements as are common among vain women aren't possible using the fat-and-stem-cell approach
If you ask me, this is a great thing. Nothing beats nature for look, feel, and proportion - and for the health of the implantee, let's not forget. And since some folks will always endeavor for enhancement, I say: Full speed ahead, and silicone be damned. Although the silicon dangers were exaggerated, natural is best-and the modified members of the fairer sex will be happier in my opinion. |
